Tcm3 review

So I recently watched TCM3, and it was actually much better than I expected. A lot of people dislike this movie, and then there's some who rank it their favorite in the whole series. Personally, I think it's maybe 3rd-best in the series, maybe second-best if you hated TCM2.

TCM3 brings the franchise back to its roots, with two teens on a road-trip in Texas. They end up getting lost, wandering into Leatherface's lair, etc. Nothing we haven't seen before, but I think this sequel was even better than the remake. First off, I loved the subtle nudges to the original here: the creepy camera sound and the body pit, the armadillo, the gas station guy fairly reminiscent of the hitchhiker (he even uses some of the same lines! *squee*), the teens' car being a similar color to the original van, the name of the little girl's doll, the bones in the little girl's room, the way the family tied the girl up and taped her mouth, feeding the blood to Grandpa, etc. And those were just the ones I noticed right off. I'm sure there's more. ^^

Leatherface is pretty scary here. Gone is the goofy, lovesick Leatherface we saw (no pun intended XD) in part 2. No, this one is pretty crazy. He's got a weird mechanical leg/leg brace that creaks when he walks, which also means he can't really run. But he makes up for that by boobytrapping the nearby forest--something we see redone in the remake and the prequel. Leatherface also somehow has a daughter, but I'm thinking she might be Tex's daughter, since she looks more like Tex anyway.

Speaking of Tex, OH MY GOD. He is HOT! Of course, he's played by a younger, moderately-shaven Viggo Mortensen, so yeah. But ohmahgawd, he's hawt. Especially when his true alliance is revealed and he's all evil and shit. >3 Kinda pisses me off how they got rid of him, but it was bad-ass, so it's forgiven. ^^

If you like your movies with an ass-kicking hero, then you've come to the right flick. Benny is the main hero here, and he kicks ass and takes names. He has to; it would be so disappointing if a guy with a high-powered rifle loses to a chainsaw. Plus, Benny's a black guy, and I think killing him off might somehow be racist. He's got that Samuel L. Jackson attitude going for him, and you'll really like his character.

Of course, this movie isn't without its flaws. First of all, it's a sequel to one of the greatest horror films of all time, so the expectation to live up to its predecessor is there. Second, umm, the ending? I was pretty sure Benny got his shit fucked up by that chainsaw, sooo.... From what I heard, the ending was done that way because the test screening people said they liked his character too much, so they made him survive. But still. Supposedly, the uncut version/workprint explains what really happens, but I've yet to get my hands on that, so yeah. Not to mention, this movie got fucked up by the MPAA, so there really isn't that much blood. Even in the uncut version. And how come Alfredo was still alive? Another weird part: Leatherface driving a truck. wut? Leatherface doesn't drive a truck! Or listen to heavy metal! I mean, maybe he does, but it was too campy to put in a semi-serious movie. Although the Speak n' Spell part was adorable beyond words. 'Specially when he got all mad when it said he was wrong. XD

All in all, it's a pretty good movie. Nothing close to the original, but it's entertaining in its own right. Give it a watch. :3
